April La corona d'espines Josep Maria de Sagarra
Event Information
This play in verse by Josep Maria de Sagarra and directed by Xavier Albertí revives and rediscovers one of the greatest texts of our theatrical patrimony.
Set in the Catalan town Solsona at the end of the eighteenth century, La Corona d’Espines tells the tangled matrimonial agreement between a young girl and an orphan boy, where economic matters are intertwined with diverse suspicions.
Violence on women’s bodies, parenthood, and the possibility of redemption combine in this splendid music score in verse. Honor, power, impossible love, and social hypocrisy feature this tragedy that becomes a critique of the society of that time.
