Photographing architecture, especially that of Antoni Gaudí, presents a particular challenge and poses an inevitable question: what can a new perspective bring to works that have been so extensively photographed?
Antoni Gaudí's architecture has been among the most photographed in the world for decades, and its bibliography is vast. Images taken by photographers, both professional and amateur, inspire viewers with the desire to experience his buildings firsthand and draw millions of people each year from the most distant countries to the places where these works are located, generating new photographs.
Aitor Ortiz took on the challenge of photographing the Catalan genius's architecture to reveal something that had not been seen in the same way before. He did not aim to find elements that had never been photographed (perhaps something impossible), but rather to view them with the austerity and distance provided. At the same time, in a subtle way, he also shows us the Gaudí who moved between the artisanal tradition of the past and the technological modernity of his time, emphasizing the importance of his workshop-laboratory, the germinal space of his entire creative process.
