Sa Varietat en sa Locura Iguana Teatre

We celebrate the 40th anniversary of Iguana Teatre with one of their greatest hits of the nineties: the seventeenth-century ‘entremeses’ or interludes.

This original idea of this show is based on five unpublished Mallorcan ‘entremeses’. The discovery of these texts has a great value, especially due to their natural link with the European theatrical tradition. This connection hints at the relevance that our theatre would have acquired if the historical and linguistic circumstances had been otherwise.

The popular creativity that originated figures such as Goldoni in Italy, Molière in France, or Shakespeare in England, also existed here in the form of ‘entremeses’ or interludes: brief, agile, and lively pieces directly linked to the essence of European theatre.

This ‘entremeses’ depict a picaresque and popular ambient, featured by the habits, the way of speaking, and the characters of the streets. Endearing antiheroes motivated by primary desires: eating, drinking, having sex… Humor is a constant, and stick blows are often the punishment for those who wander from the straight path.
