XXII Amateur Theatre Festival in Palma 2026 - BURBALL
Presas is a choral drama set in a women's prison during the harsh Spanish post-war period of the 1940s. The plot unfolds in the days leading up to a bishop's visit to celebrate a jubilee, an event that awakens hope among the inmates of obtaining a longed-for pardon. In this oppressive and cold environment, a diverse group of prisoners coexists with the institution's staff and the nuns who run it, revealing hidden secrets and latent tensions. Through deep social realism, the play explores female solidarity, the repression of the era, and the weight of religion in the lives of the captives. It is, essentially, a moving critique about survival and the unyielding yearning for freedom in a context of absolute lack thereof.
