In 1931, at just 28 years old, the young engineer returned from studies in France and founded a bodega in his hometown of Binissalem. Originally named Vinícola de Binissalem, the winery later became Bodegas José L. Ferrer, and its flagship wine Franja Roja quickly gained fame for quality and character.

• Driving force behind D.O. Binissalem. Ferrer and his descendants played a pivotal role in the creation and management of the island’s Denominación de Origen (D.O.) Binissalem.
