Royal Palace of La Almudaina
Carrer del Palau Reial, s/n, Centre, 07001 Palma, Illes Balears, Spain
+34 971 21 41 34
The Royal Palace of La Almudaina is Palma's historic royal residence — originally an Arabian alcázar later remodelled as a Gothic-Christian palace used by the Spanish Royal Family for official ceremonies. Open to the public as a museum, it presents ceremonial halls, medieval tapestries and armour, inner courtyards and ramparts that reveal Mallorca's layered Islamic and Christian past.
What Makes It Special
Its striking combination of an Islamic fortress and later royal apartments — with battlements and terraces that sit directly opposite Palma Cathedral and look over the bay — gives visitors a rare chance to see military architecture and ceremonial splendour from the same vantage points.
Insider Tips
Go early morning or late afternoon to avoid cruise-ship and tour-group peaks, combine the visit with Palma Cathedral next door, and allow about 45–60 minutes; be aware there is limited wheelchair access and some exterior areas are exposed to the sun in summer.
