Event Information
Giuseppe Verdi premiered Rigoletto in 1851 at La Fenice in Venice after the proposal of this theatre. It is a three-act opera with Maria Piave’s libretto in Italian, who was Verdi’s usual collaborator.
Together with La Traviata and Il Trovatore, Rigoletto completes the Italian composer’s best-known opera trilogy.
Rigoletto, who is a hunched buffoon in the duchy of Mantua, his daughter Gilda, and the licentious duke of Mantua are the protagonists of this drama.
